Freelancer of the Year
I was so excited to be announced as the IPSE Freelancer of the year finalist. When preparing my pitch it gave me time to reflect on the last 5 years of my freelancer journey.
I describe running my own business as being the best job i ever had!
I started my career as a designer over 10 years ago working for the British Heart Foundation in London, creating branding materials. In 2011 I moved up to Nottingham and began working for a global fashion branding agency for brands such as Hugo boss, Stella McCartney and lots of high street retailers.
MY FREELANCER JOURNEY
Whilst working I was diagnosed severe with depression and anxiety. I had to stop what I was doing and reassess where I was going.
In 2015, when I started my business it wasn’t a decision I had made over time or prepared for - which is really unlike me. I had no plans, or network having recently moved from London to Nottingham. Confidence in my ability was low. I had never ran a business or believed I could sell a product or service.
